Princess Alexis's animated short film, made possible by production studio World Famous and Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington, debuts to rave reviews.

More than 400 community members donned their fairy-tale best for the world premiere of an animated short conceived by six-year-old Alexis. Alexis wished to document her journey with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and bring awareness to pediatric cancer by starring in her own cartoon short.

Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington partnered with Seattle-based production studio World Famous to bring Alexis’s vision to life with blockbuster animation and Disney voiceover talent, including Korean-American actress Jamie Chung (“Big Hero 6” and “Mulan”). The resulting three-minute film is a powerful yet whimsical fairy tale starring Princess Alexis as herself.

Alexis’s full cartoon short is available at akwa.wish.org/alexis-wish, where visitors can also see behind-the-scenes videos that chronicle the making of Alexis’s wish.

“In our chapter’s 30-year history, we have never had a wish quite like Alexis’s,” said Barry McConnell, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington. “We are so proud to partner with World Famous to bring her ideas to life and to grant a wish that has the potential to touch so many other children living with cancer in our community and beyond.”

Working closely with a team of professional creative directors, animators, copywriters and illustrators at World Famous, Alexis was made part of every aspect of the production process, from the development of the story and the characters, all the way to design and animation choices.

"Alexis is an inspiration. She’s faced her challenges with remarkable courage, positivity, and thoughtfulness,” said Alan Nay, founder and owner of World Famous. “Her wish for an animated film demonstrates this thoughtfulness. She wants to make a little film of her story not for her, but for other children facing cancer so they can have a better understanding and maybe be just a little bit less afraid. We were delighted and honored to use our talent and skills in collaboration with such a brave person as Alexis."

Alexis’s cartoon short premiered in front of a packed crowd at Cinerama on October 24. Guests were treated to a red carpet event highlighted by fantasy and fun with a special appearance by former Seattle Sounders player Roger Levesque starring as the one-and-only “Prince Charming.” Guests also enjoyed face painting and entertainment by Teatro Zinzanni prior to the screening.

Donating most of their time, World Famous has contributed hundreds of hours to the making of Alexis’s wish. The hard costs have been paid for by the Seattle Sounders who adopted Alexis’s wish.

About Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington

Since 1986, Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington has granted wishes to more than 5,800 children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true can influence the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illnesses, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. Currently, there are more than 400 children awaiting their wishes and there are more who qualify for our services, yet we are unable to reach them and grant their wishes due to a lack of funds and capacity. In fact, every year, one in four seriously-ill children in Alaska and Washington do not receive a wish because of a lack of funding.
