“People [in the Make-A-Wish office] say to me all the time, ‘thank you!” says longtime Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington volunteer, Pat Shertz.
“But I don’t need thanks. They’re like a second family. I spend more time here than I do with my own kids!”
Over the past 16 years, Pat has worked in the Seattle office as an office volunteer. Prior to that, she was a wish-granting volunteer for four years. This year alone, Pat will spend 200 hours of her time volunteering in the office. Pat is a vital part of Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington for 20 years not only as a volunteer, but also as a donor because she has seen the joy wishes bring to children with critical illnesses.
“That just gets me,” Pat says, overcome with emotion in thinking of the wishes she’s seen over two decades. “That’s what it’s all about.”
When she became a monthly donor, Pat says life became a little easier for her. The donations she makes are automatically deducted from her bank account and she doesn’t have to do anything else to support local wish kids. But she does anyway, by giving her time as well.
You can become a monthly giving donor like Pat and make a big difference for children with critical illnesses. It is easier and more efficient and signing up is quick!
