This normally talkative five-year-old wanted to meet her favorite baseball player, Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners, but when face to face with him the words just weren’t coming. That is, until Felix got down and played with her in the dirt. This 6-foot-3 man got on her level and that was all it took to break the ice.
In addition to playing in the dirt, Felix also showed her the private clubhouse and shared a special meal: corn dogs. Felix ate one corn dog; she ate two. For Sophia, this was the highlight of the entire wish.
You can make wishes like Sophia’s come true by your support of Wish Night® Gala & Auction: Happiness, Found. The annual event, at The Westin Seattle on Saturday, March 14, features hundreds of unique auction items, entertainment and a gourmet, multi-course dinner. This year’s event will feature Sophia’s wish story so you can hear firsthand how this wish has changed her life.
More kids like Sophia need you
These wishes bring hope, strength and joy to children battling life-threatening medical conditions. The funds raised will be used to help grant wishes to some of the children who are currently awaiting their wish. Right now, there are about 400 children waiting for their wishes.
Please join Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington for this magical evening. Space is limited and reservations are requested by Friday, February 13, 2015. Reserve your tickets by calling 800.304.9474.
